Has the world gone mad? Shortages of toilet paper, no food on the shelves, everyone living life in quarantine? I'll be honest, this was not the 2020 I was expecting.
It really hit home when churches started closing, restaurants, businesses in turmoil, people struggling to pay their rent as the world tries to get a hold on something so unpredictable, that we can't even physically see.
No matter what heartaches, fears and viruses plague our here and now, we serve a living God who is still in control.
One of our newest designs was inspired by one of my favourite singers, Tauren Wells. His song simply says:
On the mountains, I will bow my life To the one who set me there In the valley, I will lift my eyes to the one who sees me there When I'm standing on the mountain aft, didn't get there on my own When I'm walking through the valley end, no I am not alone! You're God of the hills and valleys! Hills and Valleys and I am not alone!
The world right now is so focused on what satan is doing. So focused on the negatives. Everywhere I turn I see selfishness and fear. People are so afraid of the unknown they've forgotten that other people even exist.
Just yesterday I was chatting with my best friend on the phone, she is currently studying in Asia and has felt the effects of this virus for months now, it's been her sad reality, travelling to stay safe, different instructions and uncertainties every single day. Her words cut deep, "It may be, as sad as it is, that i've seen my family, my friends, for the last time already..."
Even in that moment, I had that fear mindset of what is satan up to, what's the devil doing now, but she reminded me that it's not satan I need to be watching, it's God. What is God doing right now? We already know this world is not our final home, we are not here forever, we are waiting for the return of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. This amazing event is happening even sooner than we think and if we keep focusing on the negatives around us we might just miss the point.
Right here right now, we need to look beyond the crisis, we need to look up, we need to remember that no matter what heartaches, fears and viruses plague our here and now, we serve a living God who is still in control. He loves us and He will never let us go.
You're God of the hills and valleys! Hills and Valleys and I am not alone!
1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?
2Â My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;
4Â indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6Â the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;
8Â the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
- Psalm 121
